I totally agree with you about Churches needing to give up their 501 c(3) tax status. America is supposed to be for religious freedom and freedom of speech and it isn't right that our churches are penalized for speaking out politically. The progressives sure have royally screwed up things in our country and others' indifference has allowed this to happen. There needs to be a moral awakening in the U.S.

Teresa, if the awakening and revival doesn't happen soon, we will be lost.

Bishop,
Of all the sites that I visit, yours can always be counted on for truth and intelligence. Thanks for all that you do!
I didn't realize that Orthodox clergy held down regular jobs in addition to their Godly vocation. I find that most prelates are humble and don't consider any job below them- a trait that others in our society should emulate! I have held jobs from high-pay manufacturing to janitor and enjoyed the experience of them all although the pay proved disappointing in some.
Let us hope and pray that penance, revival and reform come to America before disaster strikes. As I venture out of my retirement Bat Cave bi-weekly, the reality of it seems dim.

Indy, one of the first things I learned early on from my father was that any job was a good job as long as you worked for your pay or keep. The second thing he taught me was that if you take a job, it was your duty and responsibility to do the best job possible.

Until this financial crisis started in 2008, the majority of Americans were too spoiled and wouldn't take a job if it didn't pay well above minimum wage. They would rather live off of unemployment and welfare.

Bishop,
I started my working life back in the Fifties at age 11 helping my Dad paint houses. $75-$100 per house and back then windows and all required painting (no maintenace free surfaces). At age 16 I worked washing dishes for 25 cents/hr.
Locally here we had an 11% unemployed rate for a period and it is still 9%- people are hurting. My brothers and sisters lost good paying jobs and had to take positions paying one third of their former salaries.
The London rioters were largely African blacks allowed to emigrate to Britain to fill jobs undesired by Brits. It backfired and the newbies quickly discovered how to scam the easy welfare system over there. Austerity will soon be necessary in all nations and the freebies will dry up (not to mention mass layoff of government workers). That's when real trouble will follow.

And that is when we should all really watch each others backs, Indy. It will really be a time that we either all stand together or we will all hang together.
